What is CHAMP HOUSE?
The Giving Story
Paul and Carolyn Hebert have always held a special place in their hearts for the broken and forgotten individuals of our community and have made a life's ministry of advocating for the homeless. Driven by their faith in God and their belief in humanity, they created the Housing for All Corporation on Cape Cod. In 1992, thanks to a most generous endowment made by the late Alice O'Neill -- a retired Irish housekeeper and a staunch believer in the Heberts' vision -- Paul and Carolyn founded CHAMP HOUSE.
This unique, faith-based, residential community group home was originally founded to provide supportive housing for homeless teenagers. Over the years, CHAMP HOUSE has expanded to meet the growing needs of the community and now houses 50 men and women in a multi-generational family community. More than 700 previously homeless individuals have been sheltered, fed, clothed, respected and loved since the Heberts opened their hearts and the doors to CHAMP HOUSE ... a haven for the homeless on Cape Cod! And, hundreds of these "CHAMPS" have successfully gone back into the community to lead healthy, productive lives, and in turn reach out to help others.
CHAMP HOUSE is not a State or Federally funded program. Our existence is solely dependent upon charitable donations, contributions and the support of caring and concerned members of the community. Financially, we can save hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars by diverting negative life styles into positive, healthy alternatives. Did you know that it costs taxpayers at least $30,000 to incarcerate, rehabilitate, or otherwise maintain an individual for a year at government expense? At CHAMP HOUSE, we can help an at-risk adolescent or adult for as little as $10,000 a year!
CHAMP HOUSE is a ministry of love and of sharing . It offers hope for the future ... it heals ... it changes lives. It is truly "a place of hope, built on faith." Faith in God ... faith in community ...faith in each other.
CHAMP HOUSE is a program that really works!
